Shimmering fabrics, sheer panels and flowing sleeves, just some of the key wedding dress details on this season's bridal collections
Key wedding dress details from this season’s catwalks
Sleeves
From teeny-tiny beaded cap sleeves to full-length drapes, sleeves are a beautiful feature of many of this season’s trend-setting gowns. The most popular styles include oversized puffs, tulle froths, floaty layers and flamenco-style asymmetric tiers that end just above the wrist.
Corsetry
Underwear as outerwear is making its way to the wedding aisle. These new corsets from Inbal Dror are paired with sheer tulle, gossamer lace and lots of layering.
Froth
Weightless, full of movement and totally dreamy, this ultra-romantic look from Halfpenny London comes in the form of tulle puffs, ruffles, ripples and the softest of pleats.
Bows
Seemingly simple dresses are transformed with the addition of brides’ favourite, the bow. Some are small and sweet, stitched to a belt or adorning a neckline, others oversized and adding a dramatic element at the waist or at the back to ensure exits are as eye-catching as entrances.
Flowers
Florals and wedding dresses are a natural match and this season is no exception, with all kings of embellishments literally blossoming across bodices and skirts. One of the most popular details is flowers appliquéd onto sheer sleeves., sides and plunging backs, allowing skin to peep through the fabric.
New lace
It’s always popular, and there’s a lace for every style of dress. From the pretty and traditional, to the latest take on lace which is splashy and adds a dramatic twist to suit the more contemporary bride.
Applique
Fake tan at the ready because this season’s gowns are showing off a whole lot of skin. Appliquéd flowers and super-fine lace detailing on long sleeves, high necks and plunging backs are perfect for summer or destination weddings.
Back details
For 2020, the back of your dress is almost as important as the front. Plunging backs are embellished with all kings of additions, from barely there straps, rows of tiny buttons and sheer mesh panels to a shimmering layer of the finest sparkling beading – you choose.
Stretch
A brand new concept in stretchy mesh to create the illusion of a fitted, boned bodice but with all the comfort of strech. An elasticated seam allows the waistline to stretch over the body making it easy to slip on/off and return to its original shape.
Puffs
Statement sleeves are enjoying a fashion moment. And strong shoulder detailing looks particularly stunning on gowns that are all about the shape. How gorgeous is this tuxedo-style Cameron gown with its delicately puffed shoulders and diamante trim from Pronovias!
