Into the Woods

The soon-to-be Mrs Wood wanted to incorporate as many wooden features into the décor as she could, to reflect her new name. “The were also fresh flower arrangements of roses, dahlias, eucalyptus, scabious, thistles, hydrangeas and daisies,” says Brogan. “I made a wooden ladder table plan and sourced a suitcase for the cards. My grandma also cross-stitched the table numbers.”

Other themed decorations included a wooden oak tree guest book, where guests were invited to leave a thumb print as a leaf on the tree, plus a milk churn and wooden crates filled with fresh flowers. There was also handmade bunting made of hessian and lace, hessian bows on the chairs, a hessian and lace table runner and dried lavender place cards.

“I found a lot of inspiration on Pinterest to help with our Bohemian feel,” says Brogan. “We didn’t want anything too formal and Packington Moor in Staffordshire was the perfect venue. I loved the gorgeous barns and knew the courtyard would provide the laid-back atmosphere we wanted for the evening. 

“We had a vintage bike, which Callum renovated. We filled the basket with a flower arrangement and hung a ‘Welcome to our Wedding’ sign on it. For our Polaroid photo booth, we used the existing arch at Packington Moor, with flowers and large balloons with tassels to set the scene.”

Eat, drink and be merry at Packington Moor

After the church ceremony, guests were welcomed to Packington Moor with Gin Berry cocktails and canapés, before sitting down to a starter of ham hock pâté and four-cheese ravioli, then a surprise course of apple sorbet with raspberry vodka. The main event was beef two ways or Mediterranean tart, followed by a dessert trio of lemon tart, shortbreads and brownies with ice cream. There was even a barbecue in the evening for anyone who had space left!

“I made a playlist of favourite music to have during the wedding breakfast, then a live band learned our favourite song, ‘Lover of the Light’ by Mumford & Sons to kick off the dancing. We didn’t do a choreographed first dance – we just made it up as we went along!”
