Blooming Good Fun
Weddings are back on (woohoo!) which means so are hen and stag dos. If you’re looking for something original and fun to entertain the troops then why not hone your floristry skills and take a floral masterclass with Blooming Haus? You might even come away with some great ideas for your big day. Sally Dixon joined the Blooming Haus team for a morning of creative fun.
Walking distance from the infamous New Covent Garden Flower Market in London (the UK’s most famous floral wholesale market) you’ll find Blooming Haus studio in Battersea where the creative magic takes place. ‘Floral engineers’ Michal Kowalski and Michael Dariane are the creative brains behind Blooming Haus and love nothing more than imparting their fabulous floral knowledge.
After a warm welcome by the friendly Blooming Haus team you’ll be taken on a tour of the flower market (and no you don’t have to be up at 3am to get the best blooms!).
You’ll learn tips and tricks from the best in the business, especially when it comes to the seasons and sustainability. Did you know that the more fragrant the flowers the shorter the shelf life? Or, that it’s better to get married in August as flower prices go down that month?! Or, that peonies have to be pre-ordered from New Zealand in winter? Oh and that Tuesday and Thursday are the best days for the market?
Once the market tour is over, and I guarantee you won’t be able to resist buying some of the beautiful flowers, it’s back to the studio to get to work on your own creations with flowers provided by Blooming Haus. After a quick break for coffee, pastries and some celebratory fizz the team will take you through the essentials of creating a beautiful floral display, looking at colour palettes, vase heights, tricks with mesh to keep the flowers in place, what to feed them and much more.
Then the real fun begins, trying desperately to create something that looks good under the watchful eyes of the master florists! Michal and Michael will guide you on how best to place your foliage and flowers for maximum impact; luckily there’s a trend for imperfection at the moment so you can’t go too wrong!
As well as being a really fun activity with friends you get to take your vase and arrangement home with you and it’s actually quite therapeutic as you’ll find yourself really concentrating on your efforts. I was pretty pleased with how my creation turned out, I just about resisted the temptation to keep adding more and more and more flowers…florist side hustle here I come!
Masterclasses are themed depending on the season and include a trip to New Covent Garden Market, two glasses of fizz, coffee, pastries, an interactive masterclass and your completed floral arrangement to take home. Priced at £150 per person and a minimum of six people per group.
