A wedding at Dewsall Court in Herefordshire

Max likes to serenade Claudia with a few lines of 'I love you, baby...’ so Frankie Valli’s 60s hit made the perfect first dance at their fun celebration at Dewsall Court in Herefordshire

A Dewsall Court wedding

Personalising their wedding with music they both loved was important to Claudia and Max. The bride walked down the aisle at Wainhouse Barn at Dewsall Court in Herefordshire to ‘Cherry Wine’ by Hozier, Coldplay’s ‘Magic’ accompanied the signing of the register, and they left the ceremony together to Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’.

Can’t take my eyes off you…

“The anticipation as the music started meant that Claudia had arrived, I turned around to see my beautiful bride walking down the aisle, then… I cried,” admits Max. “It was a magical moment, I’ll never forget.”

The philosophy driving the day was relaxed and rustic with an emphasis on fun. “Although there was no overriding theme, I have a food blog called Claudialicious, so food is literally my world,” says Claudia. Canapés with the drinks included smoked haddock croquettes with pea puree, and pork scratchings with spiced apple sauce. For the wedding breakfast, guests tucked into scallops with crispy bacon crumb and a feasting roast rib of Hereford beef.

The three-tier, semi-naked cake of elderflower and poppy seed, passion fruit and lemon drizzle had a fun topper bought for them by Claudia’s sister Immi. The couple’s shared passion for food even extended to the favours, which were bottles of delicious, homemade chilli oil. “Our love for food continued into the evening where we served a cake of cheeses and the show-stopping Dewsall Dogs,” says Claudia. “I don’t think I’ll ever have a hot dog quite like it again!”

Vintage values

The couple’s own Vespa gave the celebration a retro twist, something Claudia was keen to carry into her dress. “Sally Lacock designs vintage-inspired dresses and I can’t recommend her enough,” she says. “I also had a headpiece made from vintage brooches by the very talented Abby Gadd at Agnes Walker. She sourced individual pieces and made them into a fabulous headpiece – totally unique.”

Vintage touches ran throughout the day, including glass candlesticks and votives arranged by florist, Juliet Glaves. “She understood our vision straight away,” says Claudia. “Our venue was quite rustic, so we wanted the flowers to reflect that.”

“We had beautifully scented foliage hanging from the beams and a glorious range of seasonal beauties – from sweet peas, soft blousy dahlias and late summer foxgloves, to salvias, verbascums, cosmos and oodles more! The colours were a soft seasonal palette, with some deep plum and chocolate shades. The barn felt like we had entered a different world. Juliet, you are amazing!”
