An amazing marquee wedding

Anna and Jamie held a marquee wedding at Anna’s family home in Northumberland, two days after their civil ceremony in Gretna Green

When it came to choosing the venue this lucky couple were spoilt for choice. Anna’s father gave her the option of marrying at his house in the Bahamas or his home in Northumberland. So, to give her guests an easier journey, she decided to plump for the UK option instead of Harbour Island.

When it came to styling the two marquees in the grounds – one for the ceremony and one for the reception – Anna had a rather unusual vision. “I wanted it to look like a greenhouse with lots of greens and pink,” she says. “I didn’t want it to look too girly or traditional.” She also wanted the flowers to be the main focus as guests walked into the marquee, something that Ian Russell at Wild Flowers brought to life beautifully with masses of pink hydrangeas and ferns. “I loved all of it!” says Anna. “The look of the wedding completely surpassed all my expectations.”

Anna’s dress was a beautifully understated design from Calvin Klein. “I loved its simplicity and the fact that I could dance in it,” she says.

Family was key to the day and during the ceremony Anna’s friend played the piano while her uncle officiated. The bride’s younger brothers and sisters were flower girls and pageboys. Afterwards guests enjoyed canapés inspired by the bride’s favourite childhood dishes, such as steak frites and warm chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream.

A great band was important to the newlyweds and they chose The Faithettes, Paloma Faith’s backing band, followed by friends who DJ’ed late into the night. “The dancing was my favourite part of the day,” says Anna. “Jamie and I were the first and last people on the dance floor!”

Later, some guests stayed in bell tents in the next door field, which were equipped with ‘Hangover Packs’ full of essentials. The morning after, they were treated to a brunch of bacon rolls, eggs to order and Bloody Marys.

“My advice to any couple would be not to get stressed about the small stuff and really just go for it and enjoy your day!” says Anna.
