After Anthonyʼs proposal at The Shard, the excited couple went to celebrate at The American Bar at The Savoy where the pianist, who is a friend of a friend, dedicated a song to them. That same pianist, Jon Nickoll, also played song requests during their drinks reception at the Town Hall Hotel. It was all part of a laid-back celebration that focused on the happy couple and their journey together to that day. “We wanted everything to be informal and fun, and all about making our friends and family feel important to us,” says Beccy, who invited 125 guests for the day and another 50 for the evening.
“Weʼve been to lots of weddings abroad and liked the idea of our London friends being able to get to ours really easily and quickly. We had a humanist ceremony, as neither of us is religious, and we had so many compliments about it. The celebrant, Graham Downes, touched on how we met, what we love about each other and what love means to us in a professional but relaxed way, which was unlike any wedding either of us had been to before – it was just perfect for us.”
Three of the coupleʼs friends played Canʼt help falling in love on guitars and a ukulele as Beccy walked down the aisle. “We also had Crazy little thing called love at the end, for no other reason than that we just love these songs!” she says.
“I wanted to use modern calligraphy on each piece of stationery using green palm motifs, so I created a moodboard and a friend designed everything. The invitations were my favourite, they were on thick textured card and our names at the top were debossed [sunken] with gold foil. Iʼd seen debossing on a business card then added the gold touch myself, as I love gold and it looks great with green. The place settings were Polaroid-style photos of us with each guest, held up with a little disco ball. I really enjoyed making those!
“For our first dance we had Sister Sledgeʼs Thinking of you. We had a great time dancing along to it once at a festival, so it became our song. The band we booked were called The Soul Brothers and they were fantastic. Weʼve said weʼll hire them again for parties because theyʼre amazing singers and have choreographed routines to each track. They brought the room alive and had everyone dancing all night long.”
“The table names were all places Anthony and I have enjoyed going to together – our first date at Lounge Bohemia, the proposal and our first festival.”
