True luxury at Danai Beach Resort

Stunning location, wall-to-wall luxury... If you put together a wish list for a dream honeymoon
paradise, you'd come up with Danai Beach Resort

Danai Beach Resort

Thereʼs an intensity to the blue of the Aegean against the dazzling white of the stone terraces, billowing drapes – even the parasols on the private beach – that makes you pinch yourself to check Danai Beach Resort is real. Believe me, itʼs real.

Owned by two generations of the same family, its staff really go out of their way to make you feel like youʼre their only guest. The minute you arrive, youʼll be tempted to go straight to bed, simply to take in the sheer luxury of the bedrooms. The smallest of these is The Junior Suite – 35sqm of loveliness that features marble flooring, a marble bathroom, separate seating area and a balcony or terrace. Room categories go up in size and luxury to the highly Instagrammable deluxe suites. The Mediterranean, with floor to ceiling windows and a raised bedroom, measures around three-quarters the size of a doubles tennis court!

Out and about

Located on a tranquil spot on Sithonia, the second peninsular of Halkidiki, this is somewhere you can dictate your own pace of honeymoon. All the water sports youʼd expect from a luxury hotel are here – windsurfing, waterskiing, canoeing – and there are days out which the charming reception team can help you organise. One old town worth exploring is Neos Marmaras. Just watching the fishing boats bobbing about on the shimmering water of the harbour makes any knots in your shoulders start to unkink.

And its reputation for the ‘psarotavernaʼ – tavernas specialising in fresh seafood – is justly deserved. Equally, if you prefer to wind down quietly after the wedding, there are any number of romantic settings at Danai Resort to justify sharing a bottle of wine and holding hands as the sun sets.

Beach cabana Danai Beach Resort

On the beach

Private beach cabanas with double beds make even sunbathing a romantic experience. And if you can drag yourself away from the feel of sand between your toes, experience the newly-renovated spa with its indoor pool, sauna, steam room and a full menu of spa treatments. Check out the Cleopatra room with its golden bath and, you guessed it, another double bed for relaxing. Alternatively, therapists will come to you for a massage on the beach.

Food of love

You have three options for dinner. The Andromeda has a great selection of Mediterranean dishes, while the Sea Horse Grill offers more of an authentic Greek feel with meze favourites, daily barbecue specials and grilled fish. With an intimate vibe, The Squirrel, an award-winning French restaurant, is the resort’s gourmet offering – think foie gras and glazed seabass – and is considered one of the top restaurants in Greece. The Danai also houses one of Greece’s biggest and most extensive wine cellars with over 1,700 rare and expensive wines.

The Bird at Danai Beach Resort

Sail away in style

If you fancy posing in nautical stripes, new this year is the chance to book The Bird, the resortʼs 82ft luxury motor yacht.  Complete with toys like water skis and stand-up paddle board, plus the undivided attention of  your butlers, The Bird has the ability to make you feel like movie stars as you sail around the secret coves and deserted islands of Sithoniaʼs coastline. If the wallet will stretch to it, you can even hire it for 2-3 days, sleep on board, and explore the waters around Skiathos, Skopelos and the historic town of Nikiti, famous for its orange, chestnut and thyme flavoured honey.  Food for the gods indeed!
